The honey..succulently sweet and sensitively sentimental

The Secret Life of Bees is not normally the type of film i would go for as i'm not usually the sentimental type when it comes to a drama, but i was persuaded by my girlfriend to go and see this with her and i'm glad i did. This film was amazing to watch and believe me i'm surprised i enjoyed it. The basic story is about a girl Lily (Dakota Fanning) who lives with her bullying father (Paul Bettany) and runs away with her black maid Rosalyn to her sisters place where she stays and learns about friendship and love with and the truth about her mothers disappearance. This is a brilliantly acted film from all the cast particularly Dakota Fanning who is establishing herself as a good actress and from Queen Latifah who always an puts an effort into a perfromance and Paul Bettany is perfect for the part of the disturbed father, the story is interesting as it is set during the civil rights era making the issue the film is exploring about race, which is explored well (unlike Lakeview Terrace), it was also tense with when her father catches up with her and the incidents to do with the mistreatment of black people. This movie is very warm and touching and all senses well worth watching in my opinion. Although it won't appeal to everyone.
A waste of talented actors
