The storyline didn't live up to the special effects which were fantastic.
Part of the problem was the child was so annoying we didn't care if he got taken out of the film.
Also Kneau Reeves played the wooden acting a liitle too well.

the day stood still

I loved this film. I don't quite know what it was about it, atmosphere, I guess is the word I'd be looking for. This film was never about all out action, not even in the original. So I wouldn't expect any. People tend to not like films they have to think about these days. It's a little slow starting, but well worth it. Keanu did a very good job of playing Klaatu, better than Michael Rennie I felt. After all, Klaatu was on earth to deliver a very serious message, Keanu was perfect for giving it that alien touch, the seriousness, whereas I think Michael Rennie made Klaatu a little too "human".

I would go and see it, try not to believe everyone saying it is rubbish. Go to make yor own mind up, not to have it made up for you by others. I went and saw this fully expecting not to enjoy it because I'm not a fan of original classics being re-made, but I really did love this film. Well recommended.
